Benefits for Corpsmembers
-
AmeriCorps Education Awards Program
Since 2000, The Corps Network has operated an AmeriCorps Education Award Program (EAP) through a National Direct Grant from the Corporation for National and Community Service. This program allows you to enroll Corpsmembers as AmeriCorps members so that they can receive a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award (scholarship), defer student loan payments during their term-of-service, and be officially classified as an AmeriCorps volunteer. The EAP does not provide capacity funding for the organization – only funding for scholarships.

Cigna-sponsored Corpsmember Health Insurance
The Corps Network Health Plan is an Affordable Care Act and Minimum Essential Coverage compliant health insurance plan for Corpsmembers that serve under TCN member organizations. The plan was created out of a request from member Corps for a healthcare plan that met their bottom-line, the needs of their Corpsmembers, and the rules and regulations of AmeriCorps. Over the past 25 years, TCN’s Health Plan has annually provided thousands of Corpsmembers with health care that is both comprehensive, and affordable for their host organization. Plan options include medical, dental and vision insurance.

Advocacy
-
Advocate in Washington DC
Since its establishment, a primary role of TCN has been to serve as a voice for Corps interests in Washington, DC. Staff pursue and encourage congressional and administration support for Corps as a common solution and worthy investment for meeting community needs. To name a few, strategies include promoting Corps-friendly legislation; combatting bureaucratic roadblocks for Corps that work with federal agencies; and advocating for increased investment in federal accounts that support local needs or project work. TCN’s advocacy agenda is developed through its member-led coalitions, to which all member Corps are encouraged to contribute. The coalitions include the Public Lands Service Coalition, State and Local Projects Coalition, and National Service Coalition.

-
Representation on national coalitions
TCN sits on a wide variety of advocacy associations and coalitions that align with Corps interests. Through these avenues, TCN meets two primary goals: 1) to connect Corps programming to other sector leaders in the environmental, workforce development, and national service fields, and 2) greatly expand Corps advocacy through a collective impact model. Coalitions include but are not limited to Opportunity Youth United, Outdoor Alliance for Kids, Voices for National Service, Reconnecting Youth Campaign, Outdoor Recreation Roundtable, National Youth Employment Campaign, Water Equity and Climate Resilience Caucus, and the National Parks Conservation Association Second Century Action Coalition.

Mission-aligned organizations regularly reach out to TCN to host national or regional-level partnerships to create more project work opportunities for Corps. Currently, TCN manages two initiatives in this space: the Gulf Coast Restoration Initiative (GCRI) and the Resource Assistants Program (RAP) through the United States Forest Service. The GCRI is a partnership with The Nature Conservancy, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and Student Conservation Association, which enhances the capacity of Gulf Coast Corps to meet restoration needs following the Deep Water Horizon/BP oil spill. RAP is an initiative to provide funding for member Corps to place individuals at U.S. Forest Service sites in an intentional career development opportunity. All partnerships provide opportunities for project work, training, and pass-through funding.
