ORGANIZATION/PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Founded in 1975, American YouthWorks connects young people with equitable access to educational and career opportunities, and support services through the Texas Conservation Corps, Louisiana Conservation Corps and YouthBuild Austin programs. In a supportive learning environment, participants learn new job skills by addressing urgent community issues such as building micro homes for shelterless individuals, disaster response through FEMA deployments, environmental resilience, and access to affordable housing and healthcare. AYW programs are award-winning models that welcome youth and young adults from diverse backgrounds, offering connection to innovative education and career training that can lead to meaningful employment and career opportunities.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Spend your summer getting paid to build conservation skills and engage in environmental education!
Texas Conservation Corps (TXCC) participants engage in hands-on conservation projects on public lands, coastal regions, National Parks and recreational areas across the Central Southern United States. The Conservation Corps experience builds leadership skills, connection with community, and prepares young people with skills needed to enter the workforce with a strong work ethic and sense of service!
The Texas Conservation Corps’ Summer Program is an AmeriCorps opportunity for young adults 17+ to work with a crew on habitat restoration projects throughout Texas. These crews are open to current high school students, recent high school graduates, college students & young adults looking to spend a summer working on conservation projects throughout Texas. Led by two adult crew leaders, members will work on trail improvement & habitat restoration projects, & engage in environmental education.
This is a full-time seasonal term-based AmeriCorps position working outdoors that specifically focuses on gaining experience in habitat restoration, trail projects, and more. The Texas Conservation Corps is a Program of American YouthWorks.

QUALIFICATIONS
- — Ages 17+ for Crew Members and 21+ for Crew Leaders
- — US Citizenship or lawful permanent US Resident
- — Ability to pass a National Service Criminal History Check
- — Ability to work outdoors in all weather types while doing demanding labor with hand and power tools
- — Function as part of a team with the ability to get along with members of all races, genders, political beliefs, religions, experience levels
- — Strong service ethic and commitment to completing an entire term of service with a desire to serve the community and the environment
- Crew Leaders Only: High school diploma or GED; Clear 3-year Driving Record; Prior experience in camping, backcountry travel, or related fieldwork; Ability to hike 3-12 miles per day in rugged terrain, often wearing a 45lb backpack and carrying tools
