ORGANIZATION/PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Founded in 1975, American YouthWorks connects young people with equitable access to educational and career opportunities, and support services through the Texas Conservation Corps, Louisiana Conservation Corps and YouthBuild Austin programs. In a supportive learning environment, participants learn new job skills by addressing urgent community issues such as building micro homes for shelterless individuals, disaster response through FEMA deployments, environmental resilience, and access to affordable housing and healthcare. AYW programs are award-winning models that welcome youth and young adults from diverse backgrounds, offering connection to innovative education and career training that can lead to meaningful employment and career opportunities.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Interested in getting paid to camp and travel around Texas while exploring different ecosystems and landscapes? Texas Conservation Corps Trails Across Texas (TAT) Crew members will work in state parks across Texas maintaining and constructing trails and trail structures throughout the state!
Projects may include building and maintaining trails, constructing stone retaining walls, check steps, boardwalks, chainsaw work, and ADA compliant trails. Members will be trained in using tools such as chainsaws, picks, pruning saws, loppers, and rock bars. Crews travel to out-of-town project sites often, camping for up to 10 days at a time. All experiences are welcome!
This is a temporary term-based AmeriCorps position that specifically focuses on gaining experience in trail projects and maintenance. We highly recommend researching more about AmeriCorps programs and Texas Conservation Corps in advance!

COMPENSATION
$2,400-$2,720 per month + End-of-Service AmeriCorps Education Award

- Support Services: Needs-based Support Services are offered for participants that need assistance with transportation, food, vital documents, bills, and other financial needs in order to help them succeed during the program. These funds are limited and determined on a case by case basis.
- Public Land Corps Non-Competitive Hiring Eligibility for jobs on Federal Lands: A special hiring authority that allows federal land management agencies (within DOI, USFS, and Commerce) to non-competitively appoint those who qualify to seasonal, term, and permanent positions.
- Networking: Opportunities to build connections with partnering agencies such as Texas Parks and Wildlife, National Park Service, US Forest Service, and more!
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED
- Between the ages of 18-35
- US Citizenship or lawful permanent US Resident
- Ability to pass a National Service Criminal History Check
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather types while doing demanding labor with hand & power tools
- Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds
- Strong service ethic and commitment to completing an entire term of service with a desire to serve the community and the environment
