POSITION DESCRIPTION
Intern will learn all aspects of rearing endangered Atlantic salmon from seven listed populations at a conservation hatchery.
Housing is provided on site. Shared housing is a ranch-style house with co-ed living space, three private bedrooms and one bathroom. The house includes a full kitchen, furnished living room, and dining area. The house is outfitted with basic eating utensils, cooking equipment, microwave, toaster and coffeemaker. Interns are required to provide their own bedding (including sheets, blankets, comforters and pillows) and bath linens.
Craig Brook National Fish Hatchery is the premier Atlantic salmon hatchery operated by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The opportunities to learn about Atlantic salmon, conservation efforts and cold-water fish culture are unparalleled.
JOB DUTIES
Activities include regular cleaning of rearing units, tanks and pools, rearing unit repairs, pressure washing rearing areas, grounds maintenance, cleaning and maintenance of public use areas and bathhouses, and other general maintenance as required.
Interns will also electrofish to collect juvenile Atlantic salmon, release juvenile and adult Atlantic salmon, transport adult Atlantic salmon from a trapping facility to the hatchery, collect biological samples for disease screening and genetic characterization, feed juvenile and adult broodstock, monitor growth of future broodstock, maintain automated feeders, tag juveniles, and spawn adult Atlantic salmon.

Additional Information:
Must be eligible to serve as an AmeriCorps Member. This includes:
- Being a citizen, permanent resident, or national of the United States;
- Being at least 18 years or older;
- Having a high school diploma or equivalent;
- Being willing to undergo National Service Criminal History Check, including criminal background, sex offender and FBI checks.
