Every year, The Corps Network conducts a survey of our 150 member organizations to collect data on the impact Corps have on America’s communities, public lands, and young people. See below or in this fact sheet for a data snapshot on meals distributed by Corps in 2024.

Overview
Meal distribution programs are essential services that help people and families who are hungry or struggling to get enough food. These programs provide important nutrition through food banks, community centers, schools, and religious organizations. They not only meet immediate needs but also help vulnerable groups, such as seniors, children, and those in financial trouble. Besides just giving out meals, these services bring people together, encourage better health, decrease food waste, and allow families facing challenges to spend their limited resources on other important needs like housing and healthcare.

Top Small Corps: The Sustainability Institute / Environmental Conservation Corps
The Sustainability Institute and Environmental Conservation Corps integrate environmental stewardship with community food security by managing gardens, organizing farm-to-table programs, and reducing food waste, all while supporting local food banks. Their approach combines hunger relief with environmental education, showing how these efforts can create resilient communities. For instance, since November 2022, the Environmental Conservation Corps (ECC) has partnered with Grow Food Carolina to build 6,906 HeadStart produce boxes for children in Charleston County. This initiative complements their broader food access efforts, inspired by the Soil to Sustenance program launched in 2020. These boxes have had a significant impact on the Lowcountry community. Additionally, ECC Corpsmembers volunteer with Neighbors Together, serving hot meals and assisting with grocery distribution, providing fresh produce, non-perishables, diapers, toiletries, hygiene products, clothing, and more.
