ORGANIZATION/PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Founded in 1975, American YouthWorks connects young people with access to educational and career opportunities, and support services through Conservation Corps programs in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma, and YouthBuild programs in Austin and Taylor, TX. In a supportive learning environment, participants learn new job skills by addressing urgent community issues such as building micro homes for shelterless individuals, disaster response through FEMA deployments, environmental resilience, and access to affordable housing and healthcare. AYW programs are award-winning models that welcome youth and young adults from local communities, offering connections to innovative education and career training that can lead to meaningful employment and career opportunities.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Davy Crockett National Forest Recreation and Visitor Services Representative Individual Placement (IP) will function as a key part of the team in charge of maintaining recreational resources, providing customer service and public relations for forest visitors, and serving as interpreters at public and partnership events sharing information about district resources. The individual’s duties will include explaining forest rules, amenities, and services to visitors, interacting with and potentially leading visitors in interpretive programs, and maintenance work on structures and amenities throughout the forest including signage, trails, multiuse areas, and facilities, patrolling wilderness and public use areas, and more.
This is a full-time seasonal term-based AmeriCorps paid service opportunity position in partnership with the Unisted States Forest Service (USFS) and Texas Conservation Corps (TXCC). We highly recommend researching more about AmeriCorps programs and Texas Conservation Corps in advance!

January 16 – July 12, 2024 (900 hour term)

Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
