ORGANIZATION/PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Founded in 1975, American YouthWorks connects young people with equitable access to educational and career opportunities, and support services through the Texas Conservation Corps, Louisiana Conservation Corps, Arkansas Conservation Corps, and YouthBuild Austin programs. In a supportive learning environment, participants learn new job skills by addressing urgent community issues such as building micro homes for shelterless individuals, disaster response through FEMA deployments, environmental resilience, and access to affordable housing and healthcare. AYW programs are award-winning models that welcome youth and young adults from diverse backgrounds, offering connection to innovative education and career training that can lead to meaningful employment and career opportunities.

All experiences welcome. We want to learn from you as you learn with us! Texas Conservation Corps’ Houston Environmental Action Team (HEAT) is an AmeriCorps opportunity for young adults focused on community engagement through inclusive urban conservation in the Houston area.
The Texas Conservation Corps’ Houston Environmental Action Team (HEAT) is a full-time AmeriCorps opportunity for young adults local to the Houston area that focuses on local urban conservation and restoration projects. This crew works locally on a regular schedule, Monday-Friday.

- Crew Leader + Crew Member: October 15, 2024 – May 2, 2025
COMPENSATION
Crew Leader: $2,720/month
Crew Member: $2,400/month
BENEFITS
- $1,459.26-$6,895 | Segal AmeriCorps Education Award: money for qualified student loans, higher education and training programs.

QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED
- Ages 18 and up
- US Citizenship or lawful permanent US Resident
- Ability to pass a National Service Criminal History Check
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather types while doing demanding labor with hand & power tools
- Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds
- Strong service ethic and commitment to completing an entire term of service with a desire to serve the community and the environment
