ORGANIZATION/PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
San Francisco Conservation Corps (SFCC) provides professional job‐training and educational development opportunities for individuals 18‐26 years of age through a variety of environmentally focused, community service‐based programs. In coordination with job‐training and educational attainment, SFCC offers wrap‐ around services, such as housing assistance and mental health and wellness referrals, aimed at reducing social and financial barriers, and uplifting low‐income and disadvantaged communities in San Francisco. SFCC focuses on two job‐training pathways: natural resources management and recycling. Natural resources management projects include habitat restoration, fire fuel reduction, plant care and farming, landscaping maintenance, and trail building. Recycling projects include the collection of and education around recycling beverage containers, e‐waste, waste tires, and used oil.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
You will be a mentor to Corpsmember in personal and academic development, professionalism, public interaction, environmental ethics, recycling, and waste management issues.
The Supervisor will be a positive and effective role model and ensure that all Corpsmember follows guidelines for safety, behavior, and performance outlined in Field Operations.

JOB DUTIES
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- A crew supervisor is primarily responsible for the completion of project work through the direct daily supervision of program participants, known as Corpsmembers, at project sites.
- Provide daily support and supervision to Corpsmembers at the project site to complete projects on time and on budget.
- Conduct Corpsmember project‐specific training and ensure that all safety procedures are followed at the project site.
- Successful Crew Supervisors also act as positive role models, making significant contributions to providing a positive work environment that values diversity and fosters a commitment to teamwork and learning.
- Supervisory duties include, but are not limited to, training in proper workplace safety procedures, hands‐on tool use, professionalism, and teamwork.
- Crew supervisors should be readily available to work on both natural resources and recycling projects, as needed.
- Crew supervisors empower Corpsmembers to achieve their educational goals while assisting the Field Operations and Corpsmember Development teams in training at the project site and/or in classroom settings.
- Successful crew supervisors are expected to perform day‐to‐day administrative tasks associated with Corpsmember reporting, project data tracking, and disciplinary reporting and enforcement.
- Crew supervisors are responsible for following and implementing all SFCC policies and procedures, in coordination with the Field Operations and Corpsmember Development teams, around safety, behavior, and performance.
- Act independently or in conjunction with the Field Operations and Corpsmember Development teams to resolve attendance and behavior issues.
- Coordinate daily with the Field Operations team to successfully dispatch crews to project sites on time and with the appropriate equipment.
- Maintain and properly care for all project equipment and vehicles.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications
- Earned High School Diploma or GED
- Demonstrated ability to supervise and motivate young adults from a wide variety of social, economic, and educational backgrounds.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to resolve conflict and mediate disputes in a positive fashion.
- Ability to perform strenuous physical work in adverse weather conditions.
- Desire and ability to work in a fast‐paced and diverse environment.
- At least 2 years of project experience in a supervisory capacity. – required.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise and motivate staff to work collaboratively. – required.
- Microsoft Office Suite software and databases. – required.
- Effective conflict resolution skills. – required.
- Ability to obtain First Aid/CPR certification within 3 months of hire. – required.
- Clean DMV record, with the ability to earn a California Class B driver’s license.
The following qualifications are strongly preferred:
- Experience in a related field especially focused on natural resources management, landscaping, horticulture, or recycling or other equivalent experience preferred.
- Understanding of recycling, waste management and/or conservation is preferred.
- Experience in the operation of passenger vans, box trucks and trailers is preferred.
- Knowledge of hand and power tools preferred.
Education and Experience
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Typical avenues of obtaining the appropriate knowledge and abilities include:
- At least two years of college education or vocational training in natural resource management, environmental studies, job training or counselling, from an accredited college or university
- Experience in youth development, project management, or the implementation of recycling or natural resource projects.
- Experience supervising youth from a wide variety of social, economic, and educational backgrounds.
- Experience serving and volunteering in the community.
