Position title: Manager, Natural Resource Operations

Reports to: Director, Natural Resource Management
FLSA Status: Full-time/Exempt
Compensation: $70,000 - $82,250 annual salary (based on level of experience and ability)
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm, occasional evenings and weekends
Location: This position is 100% in person, located at 2650 Senter Road, San Jose, CA 95111. Some presence may be required at our other location at 1560 Berger Drive.
Travel: Local travel may be required up to 50% of the time.

Position Summary:
The Natural Resource Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations of the San Jose Conservation Corps’ (SJCC) Natural Resource Management department, which involves job training, revenue generation and achievement of environmental goals. This is an impactful leadership position, which involves managing departmental supervisors, the management of Corpsmember training and mentorship, grant and contract management, partnership management and safety of the department.
Job Duties:
Operations Management
- Oversee the daily operations of SJCC’s contracts for the Natural Resource Management department, which includes Resilience Corps and Environmental Projects.
- Work with coordinators to assure invoicing documentation is given to finance in a timely manner.
- Verify that all safety procedures are implemented in the department.
- Maintain regular communication and deepens collaborative relationships with critical contract partners, including state and local agencies.
- Evaluate programs, track and document results.
- Deliver reports and metrics to the Director as required.
- Oversee departmental safety.
- Ensure compliance with all state and local health, safety, work and facilities requirements.
Leadership & Mentorship
- Work with SJCC leadership to establish training programs for Natural Resource Management staff.
- Implement skills training on worksite and facilitate intentional discussions via informal lessons to contribute to the staff’s professional growth and group dynamics.
- Promote staff development and a healthy, supportive community.
- Must be willing to follow and enforce all SJCC policies, maintain professional boundaries, and appropriately represent the San Jose Conservation Corps.
Project Management & Implementation
- Delegate project work to up to 17 SJCC staff members, and 100+ Corpsmembers.
- Manage on-the-ground quality and quantity of project work.
- Think critically to resolve issues and solve problems.
- Communicate effectively & coordinate logistics with project partners and SJCC staff.
- Conduct annual performance evaluations on direct reports and provide guidance to supervisory staff on evaluating Corpsmembers.
Safety & Risk Management
- Oversee implementation of environmental and health safety protocol;
- Exhibit strong situational awareness & promote a culture of safety.
- Occasionally transport crew and equipment safely in SJCC vans or large vehicles.
Administration
- Verify coordinators are overseeing the completion of attendance tracking, daily and weekly reports, Corpsmember evaluations, disciplinary action forms, incident reports, etc., and submit in a timely and highly detailed manner.
- Create rosters and track attendance daily in Paycom;
- Track all project related outcomes and deliverables, such as collection weights and quantities.
- Track team progress, training, and key project data.
Monitoring and Evaluation
- Collaborate with the Director to identify key performance indicators and desired program outcomes.
- Track program performance and provide regular reports to the Director and Department colleagues.
- Provide required information for contract management.
Corpsmember Development
- Support the development of program standards and implement training and certification programs that prepare Corpsmember for workforce integration.
- Coordinate with SJCC career, college and case management counselors to assure corpsmembers have access to all services available.
- Regularly recognize Corpsmembers achievements and progress toward goals.

Salary and Benefits
- Salary: $70,000 – 82,250 annual salary. The salary is based on a level of experience and education that significantly exceeds the minimum requirements and is commensurate with the compensation scale (salary range).

Work Environment & Requirements
Position requires sitting, standing, balancing or walking on uneven and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, climbing, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping, reaching overhead and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment, plus the ability to speak and to hear. The ability to lift, carry, push and pull tools, equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds is required. The incumbent in this position works outdoors in all weather conditions, including wet, hot, and cold. In the course of work the incumbent may be exposed to biologic/infectious agents, unpleasant odors, fumes, smoke, dust and air contaminants, and insects. The nature of the work may also require the incumbent to use power and noise producing tools and equipment, drive motorized vehicles, work near moving equipment, vehicles or machinery, work on ladders or scaffolding or at heights. The incumbent may be required to use protective clothing, equipment, or devices, and may work near hostile or offensive individuals. May be exposed to biohazards and/or hazardous chemicals. The nature of the work requires that the incumbent to use power and noise producing tools and equipment and drive motorized vehicles, commonly subjecting the incumbent to vibration. Some of these requirements may be accommodated for otherwise qualified individuals requiring and requesting such accommodations.
Equipment Used: The incumbent of this position will be utilizing various power tools, equipment, and Company vehicles. Vehicles include mainly passenger vans, and occasionally a pickup truck with a trailer or flat bed with the proper training

Employment At-Will
The San Jose Conservation Corps + Charter School is an “At-Will” employer. This means that employment with SJCC+CS is voluntarily entered into and staff members are free to resign at any time. Similarly, SJCC+CS may terminate the employment relationship at any time, with or without cause or prior notice, as it deems appropriate. This at-will employment relationship can be changed only in a written agreement signed by the staff member and the Executive Director of SJCC+CS.
**SJCC+CS IS A MANDATORY COVID-19 VACCINATION EMPLOYER**
All new hires will be required to provide proof of vaccination absent an approved medical or religious exemption prior to their start date. If a new hire is in the process of being vaccinated, their start date may be adjusted to a future date after they have been vaccinated. Fully vaccinated means at it has been at least two weeks since the person has completed the entire recommended initial series of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma;
- 3 years of supervisory experience OR;
- Equivalent education, such as an associates’ degree, AND at least 2 years of work experience that demonstrates ability to work in team-oriented settings and leading others.
- 2 years of experience and/or training in park management, natural resource, or environmental programs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Excellent organizational and time management skills;
- Must pass state and federal criminal background checks.
Driving Record and Requirements: This position requires driving one or more company vehicles. If the position is offered and accepted, candidates must submit a copy of their DMV driver’s record. The candidate also must possess and continue to maintain a valid California Class C driver’s license and a clean driving record.

Background Check and Fingerprinting: If the position is offered and accepted, candidates will be required to undergo Live Scan Fingerprinting as well as a background check, which includes a state and federal criminal history record check.
Drug Screen: If the position is offered and accepted, candidates will be required to undergo and pass a 5-panel drug screen.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) in Environmental Studies, Natural Resource Management, or related field from college or university;
- Three years of program management experience involving training young adults;
- Class B Driver’s License with airbrake and passenger endorsement;
- Public and/or private grant development;
- Business and/or contract development.
