ORGANIZATION/PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
History Philosophy
Idaho Conservation Corps is a state wide program of Northwest Youth Corps. Northwest Youth Corps (NYC) was started in 1982—during a tough economic period—with the mission of helping youth and young adults to learn, grow, and experience success. Since that time, NYC has helped 17,000 diverse young people benefit from education, leadership, empowerment, and challenge, while completing high priority resource management objectives across the state. Annually NYC crews carry out 180,000 hours of projects such as invasive plant removal, riparian planting, stream restoration, fence construction, and trail maintenance for a variety of federal, state, and local partners.
Our core purpose is to provide opportunities for youth and young adults to learn, grow, and experience success. Our programs focus on education, challenge, community, leadership and empowerment, giving youth critical life skills and confidence. Programs stress teamwork, inclusion, and leadership while promoting a solid work ethic and individual achievement. Youth leave Idaho Conservation Corps knowing that they can overcome obstacles, solve problems, make friends, and attain their objectives in life.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Woodsboss
POSITION TYPE: Seasonal
LOCATION: Boise ID this position will have extensive travel throughout the state of Idaho.
WORK SCHEDULE: A majority of your time will be spent in the field supporting crews. Schedule is variable. Earliest start date would be April 4th with potential to continue on through multiple seasons.
COMPENSATION: $118 per day ($125 current WFR or EMT certification) transportation, camping locations, and meals provided.

Position Qualifications & Certifications
- Education: Preferred college education in outdoor recreation, forestry, environmental education, resource management or related field.
- Experience: Experience leading or supervising a group or team in outdoor or conservation projects. The ideal candidate will have previous experience as a leader in the outdoor field or conservation corps program. We are seeking individuals with both technical skills to support crews on a variety of conservation projects and interpersonal skills to serve as a mentor to staff and participants.
- Certification: Current wilderness first aid/CPR or higher certifications are required; or willing to obtain prior to start. Applicants must be able to demonstrate an acceptable driving record during the last three years.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Must be able to pass a criminal history background check
- Must be at least 21 at start of employment
Physical Demands/Work Environment
- Physical Condition: Applicants must be in good physical condition and capable of working long hours on strenuous, labor intensive projects. Work projects often require heavy lifting, constant bending, digging, and long hikes to and from the worksite.
- Applicants must be able to backpack 7 miles and lift up to 50 lbs (with or without reasonable accommodation).
- Position will require camping in different locations for the course of the season.
- This position will primarily work outside in all types of weather conditions and environments including but not limited to high elevations, remote areas, cold, rain, snow, heat, humidity, wind, etc.
- The noise level in the environment is quiet to loud. PPE is provided and use is required.
- While performing the duties of this job, with or without reasonable accommodation, the employee is required to stand; walk; use hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or vehicle; reach with hands and arms; sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk, hear; and smell repeatedly.
Terms of Employment
Based in Boise, but will require travel to remote training and project locations throughout the season. which may also include travel to projects in OR, WA, and ID as needed. This is a seasonal position. We currently have availability for our spring, summer and fall programs.
