ORGANIZATION/PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Mile High Youth Corps (MHYC) is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization established in 1992 to give youth ages 18 to 24 a chance to earn an income and learn hands-on job skills while serving in their communities. In its first year, 20 youth served Denver neighborhoods through a single 10-week program. Today, MHYC engages over 250 youth (called Corpsmembers) every year through several comprehensive programs that integrate paid work experience on community service projects with leadership development, career exploration, and education. During its 30 year history, Mile High Youth Corps has grown from a small, seasonal, neighborhood-based organization to a comprehensive, year-round, regional program serving 23 counties from two regional offices, Metro Denver and the Southern Front Range.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The U.S Fish & Wildlife Service, U.S. Forest Service, National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management and other land and natural resource management agencies have identified diversity and inclusion as strategic priorities. Mile High Youth Corps’ intention is to support these goals by creating more opportunities in the field for young people of all gender identities. We believe creating this opportunity is just one of the many important steps in dismantling the barriers that have prevented natural resource management from being an inclusive field.
Join us for our 2022 Fall Gender Spectrum Affinity Trail or Forestry Crew! Working on the Gender Spectrum Affinity Crew gives both novice and experienced Corpsmembers the space to develop and strengthen skills and knowledge in natural resources and environmental stewardship. The Gender Spectrum Affinity Crew at Mile High Youth Corps allows people of underrepresented gender identities to share stories, discuss common challenges, innovate solutions, and use their voice as a member of a 7-9 person crew. Mile High Youth Corps is committed to developing future leaders and making America’s public lands a welcoming place for everyone to work and recreate.
The Fall Trail or Forestry Program is a team-based, 13 week-long program for individuals between the ages 18-24. Trail or Forestry Corpsmembers serve on environmental stewardship projects on public lands throughout the Denver metro area. Corpsmembers will be enrolled in AmeriCorps—a national community service program
