ORGANIZATION/PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Co-founded in 1998 by two PhD students, Jerry Keir and Sanjay Pyare, at the University of Nevada, the Institute began as a field studies program to mobilize University faculty, students, and volunteers in applied science and direct service to support national parks, forests, open spaces and public lands. Since then, for over two decades, GBI has supported over 7,000 conservationist serving hundreds of projects to realize positive environmental change across the western US. GBI has raised over 165MM for research, education, and service, making impactful contributions to serving the public and our public lands. GBI is based out of Reno, Nevada, with Satellite offices in Las Vegas, Nevada and South Lake Tahoe, CA. GBI is the recipient of the 2015 USFS’s “Regional Forester Award,” the Nevada Governor’s Points of Light Award in 2005 and was named “Outstanding Non-government Organization” by Environmental Leadership in 2001.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Logistics Manager will direct and oversee a small team of seasonal logistics hires (up to three anticipated in 2024)
The Great Basin Institute is looking for a qualified and talented individual to join our team as the Logistics Manager to support all GBI programs with their logistical needs. This position will report to the Senior Director of the Program Operations Team.
Our ideal candidate will bring a wide-array of logistical support prior to, throughout and following GBI’s primary field season(s). The Logistics Manager will collaborate with other GBI support and program staff to execute equipment procurement, inventory and tracking, organizing and updating standard-operating-procedures (SOPs), and supporting logistical needs of remote field personnel and crews. This is principally an office-based position but some travel will be required.
These responsibilities require an applicant with strong skills in organization, communication, and problem solving within time constrained needs.

JOB DUTIES
Essential Job Functions may include the following:

Perform pre-season equipment/supply checks and inventories, obtain new or replacement equipment and supplies, and track location and condition of equipment and supplies;

Work collaboratively with GBI Program Directors, Managers and Coordinators;

Organize and maintain a diverse inventory of program gear;

Build upon and improve existing supplies inventory tracking system;

Work independently and as well as part of a team; and
-
Direct and oversee seasonal logistics support technicians.
REQUIREMENTS

- Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent experience in a similar or relevant/related role;
- Relevant or related field/operations experience;
- Ability to communicate effectively, both written and orally, with a diverse audience including members of the public, agency resource staff and management, and GBI program and administrative staff;
- Experience with inventory management tracking software, desired;
- Experience with spreadsheet and database software;
- Ability to multi-task and troubleshoot unexpected needs on a daily basis;
- Strongly developed organizational skills and ability to self-motivate;
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, frequently;
- Willingness and ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic office environment, and to consistently enact high performance standards and a strong work and team ethic in support of the mission of GBI; and
- Possess an insurable driver’s record, a valid, state-issued driver’s license and the ability to operate a 4WD vehicle on and off paved roads;
