About us:
The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is the largest provider of hands-on environmental conservation programs for youth and young adults. Program participants protect and restore national parks, marine sanctuaries, cultural landmarks, and community green spaces across the country.
Program Description:
This position will be part of a 4 SCA member team managing invasive species on the Georgia Coast and West Central Georgia. One member will be a team lead. This work will focus on managing high priority invasive plants. A special emphasis will be given to managing invasive species on state lands. The Georgia DNR will provide tools such as chainsaws, brush cutters, hand tools, ATV/UTVs, various herbicides and other supplies needed to conduct invasive species management work. The various work activities will take the members across much of Georgia including many of the Barrier Islands off the Georgia's coast and allow the crew to explore many of the unique natural communities found in our state.
Member Benefits:
- Travel allowance: $1,100 (personal vehicle required)
- Weekly living allowance: $300 / week
- Housing will be in a cabin provided on a State Wildlife management area.
- Eligible for an AmeriCorps education award upon successful completion of the position.
AmeriCorps Enrollment Notice:
This position may be eligible for AmeriCorps enrollment. However, the SCA has not yet received confirmation of a grant award for this program. If funding is awarded, you may qualify for an AmeriCorps Education Award. If not, you will serve in a non-AmeriCorps role with the same living allowance and benefits. If selected, you will be updated on AmeriCorps funding status before your start date.

- This SCA Position is authorized under the Public Land Corps Authority. All participants must be between the ages of 16 and 30, inclusive, or veterans aged 35 or younger, at the start of the position. Participants must also be a citizen or national of the United States or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States. Hours served can be applied toward the Public Land Corps (PLC) hiring authority.

Must be eligible to serve as an AmeriCorps Member. This includes:
- Being a citizen, permanent resident, or national of the United States;
- Being at least 18 years or older;
- Having a high school diploma or equivalent;
