ORGANIZATION/PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Intergovernmental Internship Cooperative (IIC), hosted by Southern Utah University, develops public land leaders of tomorrow through being a centralized resource of committed and engaged Partners. We are collaborating to provide relevant and meaningful educational experiences and career opportunities to University and other youth in the region and meet partner needs for a diverse workforce. We encourage stewardship of and appreciation for the richness of the region’s lands and resources.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Do you love nature and the outdoors? Do you like working with people and kids? Join us in the Middle Rio Grande Valley to connect people of all ages to one of the most spectacular wildlife refuges in the country. Learn all aspects of Visitor Services and live on-site at one of New Mexico’s most popular public lands and help put on the 2022 Festival of the Cranes. As a visitor services intern at Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge, develop well-rounded skillsets as you assist staff and volunteers in providing the public and educators with safe, accessible, and quality recreation opportunities both on-site and digitally. Additionally, take on a special visitor services project to develop targeted skills. Housing will be provided on-site. Upon the completion of this internship the intern will have earned Public Lands Corps Hiring Authority which can be used to gain permanent employment with the federal government.
JOB DUTIES
REQUIREMENTS
- Candidates must have experience in customer service and digital media. A valid driver’s license is required.
- Applicants will receive first consideration from New Mexico academic programs, and second with residency or desire to reside in the Southwest. Additionally, applicants with academic disciplines and areas of interest related to this position are encouraged to apply: communication, marketing, graphic design, journalism, anthropology, business management, liberal arts, writing, photography, education, digital media, social media, history, botany, biology, and/or working with the public and partners.
- A personal vehicle is highly recommended.
