ORGANIZATION/PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Groundwork is where Justice and the Environment meet. We link the environment to quality-of-life initiatives through engagement, education, and employment. As part of the Groundwork USA network and the National Park Service, we create programs and projects that address community needs.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Groundwork is seeking highly motivated candidates for the Youth Climate Corps (YCC) Coordinator position with the Youth Climate Corps workforce development program. The Youth Climate Corps program employs youth 14-18 years old to complete community-based environmental initiatives while training the youth in soft skills, environmental science, outdoor recreation, and environmental careers. The primary role of the Youth Climate Corps Coordinator is to support the day-to-day operations of the Youth Climate Corps program, including recruitment, hiring, and community science programming.
JOB DUTIES
● Assist the Youth Climate Corps Director with day-to-day operations, such as YCC calendar and task management
● Assist with the interviewing, hiring, and placement of Youth Leaders, Youth Leader Assistants, and Youth Climate Corps youth employees
● Assist in leading Youth Climate Corps Program orientations and training.
● Respond to the day-to-day needs of Youth Leader, Youth Leader Assistants, and Youth Climate Corps Youth Employees (i.e., daily assignments)
● Coordinate and attend recruitment events (i.e., career fairs, school tabling, community events, youth-led initiatives)
● Coordinate with other Groundwork staff and possibly attend Youth Climate Corps day trips and extended stays (i.e., Yellowstone National Park, Edge of Appalachia, Muscatatuck Nature Preserve.)
● Using GWORV’s internal reporting systems in collaboration with the GIS Analyst and with direction from the Youth Climate Corps Director to track progress and meet grant requirements
● Assist in content creation for social media, presentations, surveys, and other methods for a general audience and resident network related to YCC public initiatives, including advertising and job postings for YCC
● Submit YCC website updates to the Operations Director, creating job postings (listserv, job opportunities, LinkedIn, etc.)
● Assist with project coordination and site preparation (i.e., material purchasing, set-up… etc.)
● Assist with managing and facilitating all Youth Climate Corps Community Science activities, including but not limited to air quality, water quality, vegetation monitoring, and soil testing.
● Train youth and Youth Climate Corps seasonal staff on community science best practices and techniques
REQUIREMENTS
● Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience
● At least two years of related experience
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills
● Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team
● Ability to make timely decisions and take calculated risks based on available information
● Ability to work remotely and on-site
● Ability to work on weekday evenings and select weekends
● Flexible and positive attitude with the ability to work in a variety of settings
● A passion for racial and social justice
Preferred Qualifications:
● Experience with Adobe Creative Suite
● Experience in leading staff or relevant lived experience
● Strong organization, communication, and administrative skills
● Ability to generate analytical reports to measure program impact
● Solution-oriented mindset
● Proficiency with work productivity software, writing, and presentation software
● Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive partnerships
● Understanding of climate change, climate impacts, and mitigation strategies
● Reliable transportation and ability to work in neighborhoods across the city
ADDITIONAL BENEFITS
● Full-time exempt
● Pay Scale 1: $40,000 – $50,000 per year, based on experience
● Hybrid work model
● Immediate eligibility for employer-sponsored benefits for employees working at least 30 hours per
