Groundwork Ohio River Valley (GWORV) is seeking a highly motivated candidate for the Crew Lead Position. As a Crew Leader you will lead the Green Corps team to various job sites throughout the week, ensuring the job is done accurately, on time, and safely. Jobs vary from invasive species removal, tree planting, trail building and construction.The Crew Lead plays a crucial role in collaboration with the supervisor, demonstrating commitment to fostering a safe, organized, and highly productive working environment. This position entails oversight of a range of responsibilities covering office management, crew leadership, and personal accountability.
JOB DUTIES
- Safely and productively run and oversee a crew with direction from Green Corps Manager
- Assign tasks for the day, ensuring a structured and efficient workflow.
- Ensure the loading of all requisite tools and materials onto the designated vehicle for the day’s operations.
- Maintain oversight to keep the crew focused, providing requisite assistance to Green Corps members as necessary.
- Operate a light truck to pick up supplies and to transport materials to and from work sites
- Transplants trees, shrubs, flowers and other plants by digging proper sized holes and preparing the soil to receive the plants
- Demonstrate proficiency in the identification of various plant species.
- Utilize a variety of materials, tools, and equipment associated with the repair and maintenance of structures and grounds
- Properly maintain, prepare and operate all tools and equipment including chainsaws
- Perform chemical and mechanical vegetation control
- Maintain meticulous records of herbicide use, inventory and equipment
- Operate herbicide applicator, adhering to all company and environmental standards
- May perform other duties such as painting equipment, masonry work, roofing, welding or assisting a higher grade worker with maintenance of utility systems in the facility
REQUIREMENTS
Requirements:
- Valid provincial driver’s license
- Highly motivated, and strong work ethic
- Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs
- Ability to set and execute work goals in an unstructured environment
- Flexible and positive attitude with the ability to work in a variety of settings
- Ability to work outside in all seasons or in an office setting periodically
- Possession of organizational and multitasking capabilities.
Desired but not required qualifications (can be learned on-the-job):
- CPR, First Aid, AED Certified
- Chainsaw/Sawyer Training
- 2-5 years experience leading work crews
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
- Herbicide Certification in KY/OH
- Knowledge of safety protocols, particularly in the handling of chemicals.
- Ability to utilize GPS technology and standard office tools (Google Drive, email).
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (may include blueprints reading, map reading, GIS instruments)
- Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment
- Large machinery operation and trailer use
