ORGANIZATION/PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The California Conservation Corps is a department within the California Natural Resources Agency. We are the oldest and largest conservation corps in the nation. Our mission is to protect and enhance California’s natural resources and communities while empowering and developing young adults through hard work and education.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
This position will report to hthe Ukiak Center located at 2600 Old River Road, Ukiah, CA 95482.
Occasional active outdoor work, sometimes in arduous conditions. Semi-frequent consecutive outdoor overnights, office indoor settings.
JOB DUTIES
Under the general supervision of the Conservation Supervisor, with direction from the project leadworker Conservationist II and in close coordination with the DFW regional personnel, the Fish Habitat Specialist assists the DFW statewide CCC coordination program in planning, directing and coordinating activities relating to the development and administration of fish habitat improvement projects for the CCC and other project sponsors. Specific duties include but are not limited to:
- Write, develop and administer grant proposals seeking funding for fish habitat improvement projects from state, federal and non profit grant programs, and other available funding sources.
- Conduct inspections of CCC work projects to ensure quality control at each work site, including field inspection reports documenting project status, specific details on work modifications to be made, and completion of “Project Site Completion Forms” or “Implementation Monitoring” forms for each finished project.
- Analyze and evaluate fish habitat improvement needs and develop specific plans and projects to implement fisheries habitat improvement projects as described in the California Salmonid Stream Habitat Restoration Manual (Flosi, et al, 1998).
- Arrange for DFW and CCC access to private and public lands by identifying property owners and obtaining trespass permission to accomplish watershed and fish habitat improvements on anadromous fish streams.
- Plan and conduct training for CCC staff and corpsmembers in watershed and fish habitat improvement techniques and methodologies as described in the California Salmonid Stream Habitat Restoration Manual.
- Coordinate CCC crew activities with DFW regional fisheries personnel, other government agencies, private organizations, and watershed groups for developing fish habitat improvement projects.
- Assist local watershed restoration groups to develop collaborative partnerships with the CCC, and others, to accomplish fisheries restoration work.
