ORGANIZATION/PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
LCCC runs a variety of conservation programs throughout the year. Gain natural resource field experience while contributing to climate action goals of Northern Colorado.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Contribute to local climate action goals in the great outdoors! The Larimer County Conservation Corps (LCCC) offers positions to young adults to spend a season serving on meaningful conservation projects throughout the Front Range of Colorado. The LCCC is based in Fort Collins, Colorado and is an accredited corps through the Colorado Youth Corps Association and The Corps Network. Learn more about LCCC at larimer.org/lccc.
The Water & Energy Crew Member role is a full-time, temporary position performing basic home efficiency assessments in Fort Collins and Loveland, Colorado. These home efficiency assessments contribute to local climate action goals and provide assistance to community members that are interested in utility affordability programs. Crew Members will install efficiency products and provide water and energy conservation education to residents. Crew Members engage in a combination of hands-on projects and service-learning activities focused on sustainable building practices, community engagement, and personal and professional skill development. Members will have the opportunity to observe, tour and visit local industry as part of a career placement pilot program. Within your service, there will be one week of reforestation projects in areas burned in the Cameron Peak Fire in part of local efforts to reduce sediment load in the Cache la Poudre and Big Thompson watersheds.
JOB DUTIES
- Educate residents about water and energy efficiency practices and services
- Safe and proper use of various tools and equipment
- Install water conserving shower heads and faucet aerators, smoke/carbon monoxide detectors, clotheslines, light bulbs, furnace air filters, and high-efficiency toilets
- Inspect home insulation, appliances, windows, toilets, and heating systems
- Assist with program marketing and outreach
- Participate in personal and professional development activities including team building, service learning, educational tours and activities, and workshops
- Contribute to climate action efforts in Northern Colorado
- Adhere to policies and procedures outlined in the AmeriCorps contract and Corpsmember handbook
- Safely drive a twelve-passenger van
- Report directly to Water and Energy Crew Leader
REQUIREMENTS
- Must be between 18 and 30 years old
- Committed to completing the program in its entirety
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Clear and effective communication skills, both verbal and written
- Background working in a team environment
- Proficient troubleshooting and conflict management skills
- Previous conservation experience
