ORGANIZATION/PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The California Conservation Corps is a department within the California Natural Resources Agency. We are the oldest and largest conservation corps in the nation. Our mission is to protect and enhance California’s natural resources and communities while empowering and developing young adults through hard work and education.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The CCC Backcountry Trails Program is hiring four Backcountry Crew Cook positions! We’re looking for experienced crew cooks who can cook nutritious and delicious meals for a hungry trail crew. This is an excellent opportunity to lead and mentor young adults while providing them with the nourishment necessary to perform critical trail restoration work in various national parks and forests.
This is a contract position. Select applicants will be contacted to submit a bid for the position.

- Shasta-Trinity National Forest (full season)
- Klamath N.F./Tahoe N.F. (full season)
- Big Basin State Park/Inyo N.F. (full season)
- Yolla Bolly Wilderness (8 week partial season)
About the Backcountry Trails Program
The Backcountry Trails Program is the longest-running special program of the California Conservation Corps. Each year we enroll Corpsmembers from across the country to form six trail crews that spend five continuous months living and working in backcountry camps with partner agencies across the state, including the National Park Service, US Forest Service, and California State Parks.

JOB DUTIES
- Live and work with crew in a remote backcountry camp for entire 5-month season
- Cook nutritious meals for a crew of 16 corps members, accommodating a variety dietary needs (e.g. meat, vegetarian, vegan, and allergies)
- Manage an outdoor spike camp kitchen including food inventory and sanitation
- Manage food budget
- Supervise, mentor, guide young adults in the context of a spike camp kitchen
REQUIREMENTS
- Must have a ServSafe Food Handler Certification (can be obtained online)
- Possess own vehicle
- Pass a background check
