Exploring GIS Integration at Corps: Tools, Practices, and Insights

May 28 from 3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. EDT

SESSION DESCRIPTION:

This session is continuing a CorpsCon25 workshop topic that focused on teaching the basics of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and shared resources to aid Corps programs in beginning to use these resources. During this time we’ll explore the use of GIS at service and conservation Corps programs. Several Corps will give brief presentations on the tools they use to collect and analyze spatial data. Presenters will share insights on using tools like ArcGIS and Avenza. They’ll touch on how they began using these tools, and give examples on which of their projects benefit from incorporating the use of GIS. The session will open up for a Q&A portion at the end for attendees to ask the presenters questions, and engage one another in discussion.

KEY LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  1. Attendees learn how Corps are currently working with GIS, and better understand how they can begin using it within their own organization.
  2. Encourage collaboration between Corps programs to learn from one another best practices when it comes to collecting and analyzing spatial data.
  3. Learn new ways to collect and showcase data that highlights the impact of their organization’s work.
  4. TCN-specific objective: understand what is the need/interest in Corps in having resources to begin using GIS within their programs
