BIPOC Mental Health Month

July 1 - July 31

BIPOC Mental Health Awareness Month, previously referred to as Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, was first observed in July 2008. The month aims to acknowledge the mental health challenges encountered by individuals from Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities in the United States. It serves as an opportunity to consider the various risk factors that play a role in the development of mental health conditions in minority groups, such as systemic racism, racial trauma, and cultural stigmas.

As we transition from Mental Health Awareness Month that was recognized in May to BIPOC Mental Health Month in July, let’s remember that mental health knows no limits of race or ethnicity. Let’s continue to elevate our understanding and support for all individuals facing mental health challenges, especially those in BIPOC communities. Together, we can support everyone’s well-being, every month of the year. – Tia Blakney, DEIJ Program Coordinator
