Corps to Careers Initiative
Our country has an immediate and growing need for a capable workforce that can meet infrastructure demands and replace an aging generation of workers. Service and Conservation Corps are well positioned to meet these needs by preparing young people for careers in natural resource management, water, energy, disaster response, and related fields.
Through the Corps to Career initiative, The Corps Network and our partners aim to highlight how Corps provide young adults, particularly Opportunity Youth, with skills and experiences that translate directly into competitive career opportunities.
What is the Corps to Careers initiative?
Launched in fall 2024 with funding from the Annie E. Casey Foundation, The Corps Network joined Jobs for the Future (JFF), the Brookings Institution, and the Urban Institute, in a multi-pronged effort to
- Assess labor market needs in fields related to Corps programming
- Evaluate Corps’ capacity to prepare Corpsmembers for jobs in these fields
- Identify promising practices at Corps as well as opportunities to deepen or expand Corps’ workforce development offerings
Resources
The Corps to Careers Initiative has resulted in the creation of new materials that demonstrate the positive impact of Corps and can help promote promising practices within the Corps community. These resources highlight how Corps can serve as a key pipeline for various career pathways, involving federal and state entities, municipalities, organizations, and philanthropy.
