Position Description :

The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for Yellowstone National Park is mid May thru September, but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: 5/12/19

Job Duties :

Temporary positions not-to-exceed 1039 regular hours in a service year may be terminated sooner or extended depending on management needs.

The incumbent serves as a Crew Leader at a residential Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) program for youth ages 15 – 18 years old. The YCC program is two, month long residential programs serving approximately 62 youth annually. Incumbent responsible for overseeing the supervision of 5-10 enrollees and other crew members on assigned work projects including a wide variety of land-resource improvement projects such as trail rehabilitation, fence construction and installation, food-storage box installation in campgrounds, native species conservation, citizen science, etc. Work crews are assigned projects throughout Yellowstone.

The YCC program consists of four primary components: the work program, the resource education curriculum, recreation activities, and career development and mentoring. Incumbent provides resource education sessions to enrollees using the five components of the Yellowstone YCC Leadership Curriculum-Leadership, Sustainability, Stewardship, Ecological Relationships, and Cultural Heritage. Recreational activities may include weekend outings and park field trips. Crew Leaders are responsible for establishing the spike camps, organizing cooking and clean-up, leading work projects, counseling enrollees, and coordinating work projects. Under supervision, incumbent provides guidance and direction on all phases of field projects to determine proper performance and to satisfactorily answer the enrollees’ questions about the projects.
