Utah Conservation Corps is an AmeriCorps program made up of members, staff, and partners dedicated to service to our community and environment.  We engage in projects that address goals relating to environmental conservation, leadership, education, sustainability, and community resilience post-disaster.

Known as ADRT, the AmeriCorps Disaster Response Team coalition of service programs provides a critical resources in times of great need. Over the past 10 years, Utah Conservation Corps has sent crews to respond to Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Sandy, flooding in Louisiana, Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma, flooding in Iowa, and Hurricane Florence, Hurricane Sally, and Hurricane Laura.

Position Description :

The Deployment Leader for the Utah Conservation Corps AmeriCorps Disaster Response Team (ADRT) is a staff position responsible for supervision of ADRT crew members, crew travel and logistics, and oversight of assigned work at the disaster site. This is a temporary, hourly position with the Utah Conservation Corps. Disaster response efforts are in response to Hurricane Ida along the Gulf Coast of Louisiana.

Dates:               Mid-September – Mid-October 2021 (start and end dates determined by mission assignment; flexible)

Location:          Disaster response site in Louisiana

Pay Rate:          $15.00 / hour

Per Diem:         Daily per diem paid in lump sum at end of deployment

Job Duties :

Crew Supervision & Oversight

  • Provide direction and leadership to ADRT field crews
  • Accompany crew to daily work site
  • Ensure crew safety at the work site
  • Coordinate with ADRT, FEMA, and other agencies or organizations to plan and execute daily disaster response duties
  • Problem solve and adapt to changing situations and needs at the disaster site
  • Approve service hours completed by crew members
  • Lead or assist with pre-project and on-site training
  • Track and report accurate data including member training, project assignments, accomplishment, etc.
  • Ensure UCC policies and procedures are followed during deployment
  • Enforce disciplinary action, when required
  • Facilitate a positive and productive deployment experience for ADRT crews

Travel & Logistics Oversight

  • Work with UCC staff to arrange for travel, housing, food, training, gear, and any other deployment needs before traveling to disaster response location
  • Make purchases or requests for purchases related to crew and project needs
  • Coordinate with other leaders and personnel at the disaster site to ensure coordinated project operations
  • Ensure crew safety during travel and at disaster site
  • Other duties, as assigned
Requirements :
  • Extensive leadership experience
  • Experience providing strong leadership in high-stress environments or situations
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to self-educate and seek out creative solutions to complex issues
  • Conflict management skills
  • Valid Driver’s License and good driving record
  • Experience with national service and volunteerism preferred
  • Experience with disaster response operations preferred
