In a supportive learning environment, participants learn new job skills by addressing urgent community issues such as building micro homes for shelterless individuals, disaster response through FEMA deployments, environmental resilience, and access to affordable housing and healthcare. AYW programs are award-winning models that welcome youth and young adults from diverse backgrounds, offering connection to innovative education and career training that can lead to meaningful employment and career opportunities.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Conservation & Disaster Crews: These crews are focused on conservation projects in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana. These members complete habitat restoration and trail projects with a variety of partners, from the National Park Service to Travis County Parks. These crews are based in Austin, Houston, and San Antonio.
Though most of the season will consist of conservation projects, these crews remain on-call and able to deploy should a flood, fire, hurricane, or other disasters occur. TXCC is both a state and federal resource during disasters, and leaders receive training in spontaneous volunteer management, donations management, and the Incident Command System. Common partners include FEMA and the Texas Department of Emergency Management.
