Organization/Program Description :

Stewards Individual Placement Program provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health.

Position Description :

Community Volunteer Ambassadors (CVAs) are a group of young adults, brought together through a partnership between the National Park Service (NPS) and the Stewards Individual Placement Program (Stewards) to lend their talents, energy, and enthusiasm to help strengthen the bonds between communities and National Parks. These service members are recent high school and college graduates, who serve year-long terms in national parks across the country, working to expand service-learning and volunteer efforts and coordinate group service opportunities.

CVAs will focus on a number of core objectives, including building enduring relationships with local communities, increasing the number of volunteers who serve at the park, helping to improve disaster response processes in regard to volunteer mobilization, and helping to organize community stewardship days. A key effort in achieving success will be to diversify the volunteer pool, engage under-served members of the community, and engage veterans and military families in meaningful volunteer projects.

Position Details:

  • Length: position is 50 weeks, 40 hours/week
  • Start Date: Monday, February 8th 2021
  • Applicants can choose from 48 different sites to apply for, all across the United States
  • Application Due Date: Friday, November 20th 2020, or until filled
Job Duties :

The goals of the program are to engage the public through volunteerism, service-learning, and community engagement programs and activities, particularly engaging new audiences and communities. The CVA initiative will allow the National Park Service to develop the next generation of lifelong conservationists and leaders, with the hope of generating lifelong support in the form of a skilled and diverse workforce, through service, education, and training opportunities.

Requirements :

Minimum Requirements:

  • Between the ages of 18-30 years old (35 years old if you are a veteran)
  • Be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident
  • Submit proof of a Driver’s License and undergo a Federal Background Check, upon selection
  • Comfortable with public speaking and have an interest in, and the ability to engage with diverse groups and individuals of all ages and backgrounds

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree preferred, but can be substituted for relevant experience
  • Multilingual
  • Experience in an office setting
  • Some experience with community outreach and engagement
