Position title : Serve Austin Collaborative Recruiter

Deadline to apply : 04/01/2019

Type of Position : Staff (Full-Time)

Town, City, Park, etc : Austin

State / Territory : Texas

Organization/Program Description :

ServeAustin Collaborative was formed in 2015 by the eight state AmeriCorps organizations that provide direct
service to youth and adults living in low-income communities in Central Texas: Literacy First, Breakthrough
Central Texas, American YouthWorks, Communities in Schools of Central Texas, College Forward, Literacy
Coalition of Central Texas, 4-H Capital, and Front Steps. Through the work our organizations do individually and
together to improve local conditions in education, housing, career advancement, and community resources, we
aim to increase racial and socioeconomic equity in Central Texas. Because we believe that completing a service
year can be a life-changing experience that builds skills, expands networks, and creates pathways to higher
education and employment, we are working to dramatically increase access to these opportunities for local
residents of color and to meaningfully engage more opportunity youth in service. And, because we believe that
people with lived experience of social and racial inequity bring with them knowledge and expertise that can’t be
provided through training and that they are, therefore, uniquely positioned to deepen our impact in Central
Texas, we are committed to diversifying our local service corps. We know that engaging more Central Texans in
service will be transformative for our members, our organizations, and our community as a whole.

Position Description :

With a primary aim of building a more local, more diverse Central Texas service corps across all eight
ServeAustin partner organizations, ServeAustin’s Recruiter will
– Design and execute a high touch, highly relational, cohesive strategy for recruiting Central Texans to serve as
AmeriCorps members in one of our partner organizations
– Develop a deep understanding of each of our partner organizations and the role AmeriCorps members play
in them in order to speak knowledgeably and refer candidates effectively
– Collaborate with our partner organizations’ recruiters in an aligned, effective manner to avoid duplication of
effort and maximize resources (i.e. help “up our collective game” by working smarter, not harder, together)
– Cultivate and sustain meaningful, strategic local partnerships to build pathways to service for local residents.
Partners might include youth-serving organizations and networks (like ACAN or AOYC), community and
neighborhood groups, faith-based organizations/churches, and high schools, colleges, and universities
– Design and lead awareness and engagement events in communities currently under-represented among our
AmeriCorps members (Ex: Lead a first-of-its kind recruitment fair for beneficiaries of ServeAustin
organizations and their families, friends, and neighbors)
– Recruit, train, manage, and mobilize local volunteer recruiters (AmeriCorps members and alumni, campusbased recruiters on target HS/college campuses, etc.)
– Launch and lead a ServeAustin Collaborative referral campaign among current members
– Support development of and manage a database to understand baseline demographics of the current corps,
progress over time, and results of implementing a local recruitment strategy
– Lead and manage a social media/online recruitment strategy to increase awareness of ServeAustin in
Central Texas (Facebook, Twitter, serveatx.org, Instagram, etc.)
– Leverage new messaging and branding to create refreshed recruitment materials and marketing strategies
that build awareness and improve recruitment outcomes in Central Texas
– Collaborate with ServeAustin’s Executive Directors, Program Committee, and Managing Director to identify
and mitigate barriers to service and to promote the value proposition of completing a service year
ServeAustin Collaborative operates via a partnership agreement established in 2015 under the fiscal agency of
the Austin Community Foundation. To date, aside from a part-time Managing Director contracted since
December 2017, we have operated exclusively through the time and efforts of staff working in each of our eight
partner organizations. ServeAustin’s Recruiter will be our first full-time employee, report to our Managing
Director, and will work in close partnership with staff across all of our organizations to find innovative
approaches to local recruitment.

Requirements :

You are a creative, thoughtful, strategic leader with a track record of high performance, proven commitment to
social and racial equity, and experience (or strong interest) in high volume talent recruitment. Given the need to
work across all eight ServeAustin organizations, to initiate and nurture partnerships, and to reach and recruit
new service year/AmeriCorps members, you are an enthusiastic collaborator and authentic relationship builder
with high emotional intelligence and strong multicultural awareness. You have a diverse network in Central
Texas (or know how to build one quickly), outstanding written and verbal communication skills (ideally in English
and Spanish), and if you are familiar or have direct experience with AmeriCorps, that’s a plus. As the only fulltime ServeAustin employee, you are a highly organized self-starter, an inquisitive, innovative learner, able to
work independently and collaboratively, comfortable in a “start-up” work setting, and interested in staying on
top of recruitment and marketing trends and strategies as you build an entirely new approach to recruiting a
more local, more diverse group of AmeriCorps members in Central Texas.
Experience and proven track record with talent recruitment are preferred while comparable work experience
(community organizing, marketing/communication, human resources, partnership development, etc.) will also
be considered. We are looking for someone who is eager and able to hit the ground running and who is
energized by the opportunity to design and lead a local recruitment strategy that will be game-changing for our
organizations and our community.

Benefits :

We are offering a competitive annual salary aligned with qualifications and experience as well as a benefits
package including 401K.
