Position Description :

The Volunteer Engagement and Youth Service Coordinator will be responsible for helping support statewide efforts that work to solve challenging community issues through volunteerism. This includes establishing a strong network of volunteer management organizations and partners, developing volunteer best practice training and technical assistance programming, implementing technology platforms that assist organizations with managing and supporting volunteers, and developing key strategies to help engage middle-school, high school, and college-age youth in their communities. This is a full-time remote contractor opportunity.

Job Duties :

The contractor deliverables are as follows:

  • Develop and implement a plan to support and encourage Michiganders to volunteer
  • Foster the creation of a welcoming environment for volunteers of different backgrounds and ages
  • Develop strategies to increase the use of technology platforms (i.e., InnerView, Get Connected, MI Nonprofit Guide, Skills-Based Volunteerism, Board Connect, etc.) and provide a monthly analytics report
  • Utilize the Michigan Nonprofit Guide and the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDG) to help engage people of all ages in meaningful service opportunities
  • Develop and implement statewide special initiatives and themes that engage youth in service through the InnerView platform
  • Provide support for service-learning resources, curriculum, and grant process to school districts and colleges/universities
  • Support an arts service program that highlights poems, spoken word videos, posters, and other artistic elements to inspire others to serve and learn about the causes that matter to youth
  • Increase the number of MCSC partners and partner engagement through the utilization of MCSC generated and supported resources
  • Assist with offering the National Days of Service grants to organizations including MLK Day of Service, Global Youth Service Day, and 9-11 Day of Service and Remembrance
  • Assist with supporting and monitoring Volunteer Generation Fund (VGF) subgrantees
  • Work with VGF regional organizations to offer a training and technical assistance calendar
  • Assist with launching a MCSC volunteerism training series utilizing national models
  • Help develop and implement a strategy to support a statewide network of volunteer managing organizations and volunteer centers in all regions of the state
  • Identify and secure funding and grant opportunities to expand Michigan volunteerism
  • Oversee the Michigan youth recognition program in coordination with the Governor’s Office and the United Nations
  • Support the MCSC Commissioner Youth Committee to help develop and implement a plan of action and advocacy to support youth engagement
Requirements :

Skills & Abilities Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a complementary field and a commitment to the ideals of volunteerism
  • Possess experience in volunteer management and community organizing
  • Strong understanding of volunteer program and relationship management best practices
  • Demonstrated skills in building strategies as well as analyzing data and trends
  • Strong project management skills and proven ability to meet goals and objectives
  • Strong interpersonal, written, communications, and presentation skills
  • Ability to develop and implement training and technical assistance for nonprofit organizations
  • Must be flexible, able to adapt to new experiences, and capable of working independently
