Position Description :

The Boise National Forest is recruiting for one Forestry Technician (Trails/ Range Technician) internship beginning
July 8, 2019 through December 20, 2019. The primary areas the intern position will fill are trails maintenance and
range monitoring and inventory: The intern will also assist with recreation and history building
maintenance/repairs, and other projects as mutually agreed. All duties during this internship are primarily related
to natural resource management and are primarily field oriented. The intern will generally be incorporated as a
part of a crew or working with another U.S Forest Service employee on a routine basis.

Job Duties :

Primary duties include using hand tools to clear trail of downed logs and debris and support drainage needs on
system trails, general campground clean up, and minor maintenance, data collection, site inspections. Range work duties include range allotment monitoring and inventory, removal of noxious weeds, fence repair, and historic building maintenance. Additional duties may include using GPS units, compass, camera, clinometers and other equipment. The crew may travel to other duty stations during the work week and remain over-night occasionally.

Requirements :

Required Qualifications:
 Ability to camp/backpack/ work outdoors in remote setting and inclement weather
 Ability to lift and carry 30lbs
 Willing to learn and participate in a team environment.
 Current Driver’s license
 Good written and verbal communication skills

Desired Qualifications:
 Experience with hand tools and chainsaws preferred

Benefits :

$6,584.00 living allowance dispersed on a monthly basis, a $2,887.50 education award upon completion of the
900 hours of service. The living allowance and education award are taxable. Members are responsible for providing their own food. Service eligibility is contingent upon the results of a criminal and driving background check.
