ORGANIZATION/PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Founded in 2009, Green City Force works in close partnership with the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) to engage 18-24 year old public housing residents with high school diplomas and equivalents in a full-time, 6-10 month AmeriCorps national service term. GCF’s programs are rooted in the belief that young NYCHA residents are uniquely positioned through leadership, training, and service to drive change in public housing communities while building skills, earning certifications, and gaining experience to help launch their careers and achieve economic prosperity.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Finance Manager is a critical member of the Finance department that ensures the accurate
management of financial data and bookkeeping for an organization with a $7 million budget. Working
directly with the Finance Director you will support in financial reporting, budget preparation, and the
annual audit. In addition, this position will be responsible for financial procedures and protocol related to payroll, expense allocations, and invoicing. This position will also support the activities of various Green City Force (GCF) departments, including but not limited to collecting pertinent data for budget reporting and analysis.
JOB DUTIES
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist with preparation and finalization of financial reports and metrics for GCF’s Board of
Directors and external funders;
• Support the Director of Finance in generating the organizational budget and project-specific
budgets;
• Generate invoices for fund reimbursement from external funders, largely governmental;
• Collaborate with other departments to manage departmental budgets;
• Facilitate contractually obligated reporting and compliance, particularly with AmeriCorps or
various New York state and local agencies;
• Collect information for, prepare, and maintain various payroll documents in preparation for
running payroll; review and process payroll with Director of Finance;
• Oversee processing of invoices and payments for various projects across departments;
• Liaise with outside vendors and contractors to ensure timely payments;
• Assist in monthly reconciliation of credit card expenses and receipts through Expensify;
• Facilitate GCF time-tracking and other finance-related training during new hire onboarding;
• With the Director of Finance, develop and codify GCF Finance protocols and procedures.
REQUIREMENTS
SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of relevant experience in Accounting, Finance, Public
Administration, or a related field
• Nonprofit financial experience is a plus;
• Experience with Sage Intacct, Bill.com, Expensify, or related financial management software is a
plus;
• Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive situations properly aligned with ethics and GCF
protocol;
• Highly organized and adept at creating and maintaining systems for maximum efficiency. Ability
to multi-task with strong organizational and time management skills;
• Excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills;
• Commitment to upholding and advancing equity, inclusion, and diversity;
• Excellent computer skills, including high proficiency with Excel, Microsoft Word, and Google
Suite.
