Green Jobs and Careers
Service and Conservation Corps are big promoters of green jobs and careers. From recycling, to energy efficiency retrofits, to work on public lands, to solar installation, Corps help prepare young people for work in these growing fields, and often with paid or stipended work experience.
With generous support from The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and The W.K. Kellogg Foundation, The Corps Network released a publication in 2011 that illustrates how to prepare young people for jobs, postsecondary education, and careers in a growing green economy titled, A Green Career Pathways Framework: Postsecondary and Employment Success for Low-Income, Disconnected Youth.
The publication was developed with input from 35 stakeholder organizations and 6 federal agencies over 2 years. In addition to discussing broad strategies for creating and implementing successful "On Ramp" programs, A Green Career Pathways Framework also shares several real-life Corpsmember success stories that demonstrate the potential these kinds of programs can have as they lead to careers.
